Widen functionality to become generalized CalDAV client
Currently most (all?) Android calendar apps only allow syncing and interaction with Google Calendar. It would be extremely useful to have the capability of interacting with other non-Google CalDAV (iCal) calendar servers in the same way.

CalenGoo can already be synced with CalDAV calendars via the Android calendar and certain CalDAV sync apps. And probably with the next major update it will also be possible to sync tasks with CalDAV servers. It already works fine with Yahoo, ownCloud and a few others. Please tell me ( android@calengoo.com ) if you would like to try it using a beta version.

I second that notion - in fact, not using google and being able to use a secure and independent paid mail and calendar service is what keeps me from selecting this otherwise excellent application.

Implementing CalDAV protocol in every calendar app is a bad idea, counter productive and duplication of efforts. This is a "MS Windows" way of doing things, constantly reinventing the wheel. Android have Unix roots where the motto is to reuse components.
There's already a really nice and perfectly working CalDAV (as well as CardDAV) calendar provider for Android which allow quite any calendar app to be CalDAV aware. This is CalDAV-Sync https://market.android.com/details?id=org.dmfs.caldav.lib

It might be interesting for you to know that there is a way to sync the Android calendar with ICS files using the app "ICSSync": http://www.icssync.com/
And because CalenGoo can sync with the Android calendar, it can indirectly also sync with these ICS files. -

I'm PRO that idea. Google is what it is but user MUST have a option not to use Google services. Right now its like use or die.

Despite any flame war pro or con "Bad Google" and "why buy Google mobile phone then to avoid Google" disputes, CalDAV support allows useage in business, because lots of them have such infrastructure already and it becomes more and more easier to setup one.

Caldav is a working open standard that allows independence from other calendars. It is also what I use and so does yahoo. My data are not Google's for data mining and selling. I do not want somebody selling me items at the door of my client because google determined I would be some

A number of arguments could be made in favor of this feature. First, it would give Droid users a realistic path to be able to escape some of the persistent quirks in Google Calendar by moving to a different online calendar server with greater reliability. Second, for users with privacy concerns, this functionality would allow moving calendar data to a private server. Third, it would allow a combined view of calendar events from a number of different sources, both Google and non-Google. Fourth, with access to different servers, it would also be possible to move individual events -- or sets of events -- between servers. Fifth, it's just a cool idea, wouldn't you agree? :-)
