improve the time picker
Please add a comment how this time picker should look like if you vote for this idea.
In version 1.0.78 (which has been released a few minutes ago) a first, experimental version of a new time picker has been added as an option. You can turn it on under “Settings”, “Display and Use”, “General”, “Use improved time picker”. It offers three choices: “Plus/minus” (the standard time picker), “Numberpad” (a number pad) and “List” (there you just have to tap twice to choose a complete time). Because it is “experimental” it hasn’t been announced in the update description. Instead it is announced here to get some feedback if it is good this way or what should be changed. One thing that is missing are buttons +/-5 minutes which have been suggested here. But maybe the number pad or the list are better choices anyway, so that the +/- 5 minutes buttons are not necessary. Please try the new time picker and write a comment here if it is good this way or what should be changed. If you have any problems with the new time picker, you can just turn it off again and continue to use the standard time picker.

Anything but the stock time picker! I like the one on Calendar Pad Pro, for example.

I don't mind how you do it, just please let me rapidly jump forwards our backwards in 15 minute intervals, instead of only having hour and SINGLE minute dials. But one way would be to let the user specify, in settings, how many minutes are jumped forwards or backwards when you press + or - on the minute button.
User can always adjust more exactly (same as now) by touching the number to edit it with the keyboard, but you could make this default to number pad.

On devices with a hardware keyboard it would be great if dates and times could also be input directly from the keyboard. Ideally, the first input box and its value would be preselected such that one could immediately start typing. In addition, values should be adjustable by arrow keys, track ball movements, and the like (Blackberry style). Ideally, the time picker would also provide a shortcut for incrementing the minute value to the next quarter of an hour (e.g., by pressing the enter key, as in Agenda One on Windows Mobile).

Danke!

I agree with several posters here that the way Pocket Informant does time picking is extremely nice.

I`d prefer a keypad for typing in the time, f.e. typing 0456 is set as 4:56, typing 1325 is set as 13:25. That would be the fastest way I think.

Rotary dials like for instance the HTC alarm clock.

A configurable period for minutes would be very handy with 5, 10, 15-minute increments would be very nice so everyone can choose their own value in the settings

yes, the pocketinformant way is the best way to input time...

I vote for a keypad (again, like Pocket Informant). A single press on a digit is quicker than swiping a virtual scrolling wheel...

Don't have any votes left but I prefer rotary selectors. Something like a slot machine. This applies for time picker. Maybe date picker would work with the same principle.
But configurable period for minutes would be very handy. Not sure whether 1, 5, or 15-minute increments would work best so it would be nice if everyone could choose their own value in the settings. -

Best way to enter time would be to simply show a small numeric keypad, which allows tapping in appropriate HH:MM digits. Pocket Informant (competitor) has done this thing nicely - I was using it before swithing over to CalenGoo due to general slowness in PI.

My preference would be the wheel or rotary dial by default with the option for a key pad like iphone/ipod touch.

I would recommend rotary dials like the iphone and ipod touch (for date and time picker) OR a numerical key pad with am/pm toggle button (for time picker only)

Pocket Informant has an excellent time picker. It looks similar to a keypad and you simply type in 0325 and your time is now set at 3:35. AM and PM toggle. If you would like, I can send you a screen shot.

@ratos: That works neither on my HTC device nor my Motorola devices with the stock calendar. If I try that, either the whole view scrolls up or down or if I tap&hold longer, a menu appears asking me what to do. Which device and calendar do you use?

just use the function of the andraoid calendar by default. You can increase the time by touching the event at the top or bottom and enlarge it

sorry, it is me confusing things - forget that comment.

What do you mean with "when the date changes"? Normally the date picker should display the month for the date that was previously selected for the event. How can the date of the event change by itself? Sorry, can you please give an example?

good idea, and needed. increments of 15 min sound like a good idea, perhaps with the option to overtype manually, if possible. For the date picker, the month should change when the date changes from the last date in a month to the first date in the next month.
