make the agenda widgets scrollable
Agenda widgets in all sizes are now scrollable. Under Android 2.x you have to use special home screen managers that support scrollable widgets. Under Android 3.1 and later the scrollable agenda widgets are also resizable (the size can only be increased, so just choose a small widget and enlarge it).
You can find more information about the scrollable widgets here:

And here you can find information about the resizable widgets:

In addition to scrolling, I think it would be nice to be able to touch one of the events in a widget and see an exploded or full view of its info for 5 seconds or so, rather than having to go to the full calendar view to see more about a single event. To distinguish between a desire to see one event rather than the whole calendar, perhaps using a short vs. long touch would work, or if that's not good then allowing the user to express a preference about the action after a touch of the widget would work.

@Dennis: So you would like to have a scrollable month widget? Maybe one that can be week-vise scrolled?
-
Dennis commented
Good job so far, but still needs work. I was so excited to see scrollable widgets but once installed, not so much. I use the plain old monthly widget unfortunately, the scrollable one most closely matching it is too big. I have to remove all but 4 icons from my default screen.

@Jason: This is a bug in the current version which will be fixed with version 1.0.58 probably tomorrow.

I'm still trying to figure out if there is a change I can make in settings under any of the widgets to get the scrolling one to only display the calendars (and to hide the tasks) I've selected for them. It's still showing all the calendars I have selected for when I have the app open.

@Adi: That's interesting, then SonyEricsson must have added the necessary functions to make their home screen compatible with scrollable widgets. That's good! :) I will contact you by email so that we can try a few things and see why it doesn't work.

@calengoo:
i use the standard SonyEricsson Xperia pro, Andriod 2.3.4 home screen. Dispite other statements in this thread it scrolls just fine. -
@Adi: No, it should refresh automatically. But the non-scrollable widget has to load only enough data to fill the screen whereas the scrollable widget has to load all data for the configured number of days ("Settings", "Widgets", "Agenda widget", "Show next x days"). So if you set this to a high value and if you have a lot of events, it may take significant more time to refresh the scrollable widget than the non-scrollable widget. E.g. it can take about 2-4 seconds.
Which home screen manager do you use?

I use SE Xperia pro with A2.3.4.
my list 4x4 widget scrolls very well, but it does not refresh on changes in the calengoo app (new event .. )
As a check I started a list 4x4 widget not scrollable and that refreshed immediately. ???
It seems that some changes in settings are also not refreshed in widgets allready in place, but I have to delete the widget and set up a new one with the changed settings. Is that supposed to work like that? -

As for the calendars that appear on the widget, they are not controlled by the calendar list in the Widget section of the settings menu, but they should be. Instead they are controlled only by the Visibility/Download master list of calendars to show inside the main app. If you want to keep control there (or if not), making it so the calendar selection bar at the bottom of the screen turns on and off calendars in the app AND on all the widgets would be excellent!

I have had my carrier order me a replacement phone. I am using a Motorola Droid X, and the replacement will be here by the beginning of next week. I'll let you know if it was the widget or the phone next week.
-
@Jason: That's really very slow, on my phone (Nexus S) it takes only about 2-3 seconds (with GO Launcher EX). Did you try to set "Show next x days" to a lower value? Did it change anything? Which phone do you use?
Has anybody else here the same problem with the speed?

Found another issue as well. The widget is showing calendars that I have specifically unchecked in the list of which ones to show (I unchecked the same ones for all the widgets, but I am using the Agenda scrollable)
And the widget is VERY slow to load, sometimes taking nearly a minute when I go back to the home screen. (GoLauncher EX) -

I've just noticed now that for some reason, the tasks that appear on the scrollable widget have a transparent background while my other daily events are at 20% transparency. I checked the settings for the tasks widget just in case they were somehow linked, but it's at 20% also, and that widget is fine.

@Former_A5_Fan: Yes, that's correct, please see my first comment from last December: "Scrollable widgets require special home screen apps like Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher, they don't work with the standard home screen. Please keep that in mind if you vote for this idea."
Scrollable widgets are not possible by default, they were added with Android 3.0, but Android 2.x does not support scrollable widgets without these special home screen managers. So you should install e.g. "GO Launcher EX" or "ADW Launcher" if you would like to use them.

Hi,
does that mean that the standard home screen manager which is pre-installed on the Samsung Galaxy S2 (I don't know it's name) does not support scrollable widgets??
Regards,
Gabs -
I contacted Jason directly and we figured out what caused the problem: "Settings", "Widgets", "Agenda widget", "Simplified compatibility mode (less options) for old home screen managers like Home++" must be turned OFF if you would like to have different font colors. This simplified compatibility mode doesn't support different font colors and it is only necessary for some old home screen managers.

And you are correct, the 4x4 widget does display the whole date correctly.

Jason commented
I checked the settings, and "Use calendar color for text" was checked and set to on. When I went back to the original widget, the colors were correct. When I turned the scrollable feature back on, the colors went back to white, even though the box was still checked to use calendar colors for text.
-
@Jason: Did you maybe turn "Settings", "Widgets", "Agenda widget", "Use calendar color for text" off? This would explain why all entries are white.
I will add an option to hide the tasks.
Another date format will be added with the next update that provides a shorter format for the 2x widgets but the 4x4 widget should already be wide enough to display the full date.
